Born in 1961, Ecole Polytechnique then PhD and habilitation, specialized in physical metallurgy and materials selection and design.

Yves Bréchet has been professor in Grenoble University between 1987 till 2012 and High Commissioner for atomic energy from 2012 to 2018. He hold the clair “Innovation technology” in College de France in 2012, was scientific advisor to Pechiney, Constellium, Arcelor, EDF.

He is currently scientific director of Saint Gobain company, member of the French academy of sciences, professor at McMaster university and Monash University
